Notes:
When JA Bell was just a baby, his parents migrated to Australia. His father was a squatter and a convict overseer. In 1844 his father took over the pastoral lease of Jimbour Station on the Darling Downs. It was run by a manager until 1847 when the Bell family took charge, with the leasehold being registered in the name of Bell & Sons. On his father's death in 1874, Jimbour House was passed on to John Alexander's elder brother, Joshua Peter. John Alexander spent most of the 1870s and 1880s in the UK. In 1895 he resided at Merrivale Station, Mitchell
