The role of the Auditor-General is to provide Parliament with independent assurance of public sector accountability and performance. This is achieved through reporting to Parliament on the results of its financial and performance audits.

The report provides key insights from the Queensland Audit Office’s (QAO) financial audits of government entities across Queensland's regions. In this context, ‘regions’ encompasses the 99 per cent of the State’s land mass located outside Greater Brisbane. The report examines various aspects, including regional population and demographic trends, economic diversity, government activities, and the Queensland Government’s efforts to enhance coordination and support regional growth.

Referral to Committee

On 13 March 2025, the Primary Industries and Resources Committee resolved to self-refer Auditor-General’s Report 14: 2023-24 — Queensland’s Regions 2023 in accordance with section 105 of the Parliament of Queensland Act 2001.
