About The Bill

On 19 May 2015 the Member for Dalrymple, Mr Shane Knuth MP, introduced the Sugar Industry (Real Choice in Marketing) Amendment Bill 2015 to the Queensland Parliament.

In accordance with Standing Order 131, the Private Member’s Bill has been referred to the Agriculture and Environment Committee for consideration.

According to the Explanatory Notes, the objective of the Bill is to provide cane growers with the right to have real choice over who sells and prices Grower Economic Interest (GEI) sugar and address the imbalance in market power between mill owners and growers.

The committee tabled its report to the House by 14 September 2015 (Standing Order 136).
