Overview

The Agriculture and Environment Committee resolved to review and report on Queensland drought assistance measures administered by departments and other entities within its areas of responsibility. The committee conducted these reviews in accordance with its public accounts responsibilities under s.94 of the Parliament of Queensland Act 2001.

These reviews commenced with the Drought Relief Assistance Scheme (DRAS) administered by the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries. This scheme includes the Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate.

For its review, the committee will examine:

  • Design – whether the scheme is well-designed and meeting the needs of drought-affected communities, landholders and families
  • Delivery – whether the scheme is being administered effectively and efficiently to meet its stated objectives whilst satisfying all legislative requirements, and to provide value for money for the Queensland taxpayer, and
  • Opportunities for improvement – whether the scheme can be enhanced to provide improved outcomes and/or efficiencies at no net additional cost to the Government.
