Interests included surfing and tennis; Member, Queensland Club: Under his direction, considerable expansion took place in medical, health and hospital services; founder, Open Heart Surgical Unit, Chermside Hospital. He was also instrumental in setting up the neuro-psychiatric unit at the Chermside Hospital and a cytology department at the Brisbane Women's Hospital for the detection and early treatment of cancer in women; He established annexes in many hospitals throughout the state to care for the aged and infirm and for handicapped children
