TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
This is a petition by citizens of Queensland to draw the attention of the House to the fact that the Townsville Showgrounds are a publicly-owned asset that must not be sold; and that the Townsville Showgrounds Markets are a necessary and strong part of the fabric of Townsville society. Over the 127 years of the Showgrounds’ existence there have not been any inappropriate uses which, while it is in a residential area, would cause the Townsville showgrounds to be moved to a less populated area on the outskirts of the City of Thuringowa. Your petitioners therefore request the House to legislate in order that the Showgrounds remain at its current location in perpetuity and that the regulation of noise and other emissions from any activities be the focus of control of the appropriate enforcement agencies.
