TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the Gold Coast City Council over a number of years, failed to adequately address the rapidly deteriorating condition of the water of Lake Hugh Muntz in Mermaid Waters and has not taken the necessary steps to return the lake to its former condition prior to the outbreak of blue-green algae, resulting in the lake water becoming toxic and having to be closed.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to have the Gold Coast City Council allocate a special budget to allow the recommendations of the Griffith University Research Team to be immediately actioned and maintain that budget annually until the lake has been restored.
