Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that there is a significant imbalance between the power of elected members and their constituents in the period between general elections. Once elected, it is entirely possible for them to ignore the will of their constituents or behave in a manner of which their constituents disapprove, without any timely consequences. This situation is sharply at odds with the notion of democracy as "the sovereignty of the people".

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to initiate changes to our laws of governance to:

1. Allow a suitable proportion of electors in a seat to initiate a by-election within that seat in between general elections

2. And/or conduct non-compulsory, mid-term electronic confirmation elections within each electorate of the state

3. And/or allow electors state-wide, a right of veto over legislation recently passed by the parliament (similar to the right of veto exercised by a US president)

with specific details of the above changes to be determined by wide public consultation with an emphasis on the views of the general voting public.
