TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the danger to residents of Childers, caused by B-Doubles, trucks, and other heavy vehicles presently able to traverse Churchill St, the main shopping and commercial precinct of Childers. While a bypass is planned, that has been the case for many years, and there is no timetable or budget set at present. Trucks have been observed

  • speeding (there is a 50kph limit)
  • proceeding through a red light at the pedestrian crossing, and
  • mounting kerbs, as they proceed.

Few (if any) other regional towns in Queensland allow heavy traffic in their main streets. A fatality, or serious injury, could easily occur if this is not rectified.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to urgently arrange for a temporary road bypass route for heavy vehicles, to be used until the permanent bypass is constructed.
