TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that we the people of Queensland on behalf of Australia call on the Parliament of Queensland to address our indigenous deaths in custody. Queensland having the third highest indigenous deaths in custody, the majority due to medical episodes, 443 deaths is too many, there is zero accountability nationwide and not a single indication as to why nothing is being done. These numbers don’t match up, our country and state are desperate for answers, we must act before another indigenous life is lost to negligence in the justice system.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to address the remaining recommendations from the 1991 Royal Commission into Indigenous Deaths in Custody and make due legislative amendments based on a new inquiry. Public and family consultation is necessary to ensure appropriate amendments are made.
