TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that on 2 November 2019 the Captain Creek Rural Fire Brigade was deregistered by Queensland Fire and Emergency Services following an investigation. This has left the community of Captain Creek unprotected at the start of what is potentially another catastrophic fire season. Deregistering the brigade and its 47 local, trained volunteer firefighters has caused the community to believe it is in a position of compromised safety and resilience, especially following the November 2018 bushfire event.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all in its power to reregister the Captain Creek Rural Fire Brigade as a matter of urgency, along with all of its members, to provide assurance to the community that it is safely protected during this year’s bushfire season.
