Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the need to urgently review the sentence for recently convicted child sex offender, Rogelio Acosta Ruiz. Ruiz, a 35-year-old man, pleaded guilty to rape, indecent treatment of a child under 12 as well as procuring a child under 12 to commit an indecent act. On the 6 November 2019, Ruiz was sentenced to three years in prison, to be suspended after 12 months, by the Mackay District Court. Ruiz will only spend three more months in prison as he has already spent time in custody which will be considered as time served.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ask the Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Hon Yvette D’Ath, to immediately appeal Ruiz’s sentence.
