TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the current speed limits on the New England Highway through the township of Allora on the Southern Downs were set fifty years ago. Local community members consider them excessive as road traffic due to population growth, tourism and industrial development has increased in the intervening years. Approaches over the past six years to the Department of Transport and Main Roads and relevant people have resulted in no action and road safety continues to be compromised.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to instruct the Department of Transport and Main Roads to relocate the current 80km/hr limits to more appropriate positions on the Highway as a matter of urgency; namely north to the Reserve Road and south to the Bradfield Road junctions with the New England Highway.
