This petition of electors in the Rockhampton draws the attention of the House to the lack of certain medical specialists in the Rockhampton region, specifically those who deal with Parkinson's disease and similar neurological and movement complaints. The very large numbers of people suffering from this and similar issues are obliged to travel outside the Rockhampton area - usually to Brisbane - for treatment or check-ups.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to undertake a review of:

(a) the current costs to the Queensland economy of supplying travel allowances to those persons with Parkinson's disease to Brisbane for specialist treatment;
(b) the potential savings to be made by supplying to, or encouraging to, service Rockhampton specialist practitioners in either a full time or part time capacity; and
(c) the quite heavy cost and inconvenience to those patients having to travel away from home.
