Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that the growing risk of jobs being lost to those in the coal industry. There are currently 54,000 jobs in the coal industry which due to a global trend in demand for coal decreasing means they are at great risk.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to have a 10-year transition plan and job retraining program to make sure workers in those industries have the opportunity to move into the emerging renewables industry. We also request that new projects around our hydrogen export market, solar and wind farms as well as solar panel recycling plants are built in the areas most likely to be negatively affected by the demand decrease in coal.
