De-amalgamation of Granite Belt from Southern Downs Regional Council
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland145 Thorndale Road
BROADWATER QLD 4380
Queensland residents draw to the attention of the House, the fact that the Queensland Treasury Corporation (QTC) report on the viability of a proposed Granite Belt Regional Council is flawed. It is our view that QTC’s analysis was undertaken not on the Granite Belt Community Association’s proposal for de-amalgamation, but rather on an entirely different proposal provided exclusively by the Southern Downs Regional Council. We further believe that as QTC did not consult with nor seek input from the Granite Belt Community Association regarding QTC’s assumptions, the basis for the QTC report is biased towards the institutionalised prejudices of the Southern Downs Regional Council.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that a local government change commission is appointed to independently review the Granite Belt Community Association’s de-amalgamation proposal, and to accept input from all interested parties, rather than rely entirely on information supplied by Southern Downs Regional Council.
