Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the historical, recreational and cultural significance of huts owned by residents of the Hinchinbrook Shire. These huts, located within Halifax Bay Wetlands National Park, on unallocated state land and council land have been a feature of the Hinchinbrook lifestyle for dozens of local families over many decades. The huts are an integral part of the Shire’s cultural identity with residents maintaining the area they are situated on to the highest of standards.

There is no impediment to hut owners being able to coexist alongside native title holders and Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service in the same area.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to take all steps necessary to prevent the Department of Environment and Science and Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy from removing huts located in Halifax Bay Wetlands National Park and on unallocated state land.
