The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that there is no adequate cycle connection between the V1 Veloway and the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. The missing link is identified in the Principal Cycle Network Plan and would connect the existing bikeway from O’Keefe Street past the PA Hospital busway station across the rail lines to the Boggo Road precinct. Currently, the only option for people cycling this way is to use Annerley Road or the very narrow footpath past the entrance to Dutton Park station. This connection will also be vital for enabling students to walk or cycle to the proposed new Inner City South State Secondary College from the catchment area east of the rail line. The Cross River Rail project will involve major works at this location, including re-configuring the rail lines around the southern portal to the new tunnel. If a cycle connection is not included as part of this construction work it is likely to become prohibitively expensive in future and the Principal Cycle Network will never be completed.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to ensure that a cycle connection is provided from the PA Hospital to the Boggo Road precinct as part of the Cross River Rail project.
