TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the state of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that the Maleny Rural Fire Brigade (the Brigade) has a very proud heritage in serving the Maleny community, the North Coast Region and indeed Queensland but that each year, the Brigade has to move all vehicles and equipment out of their current premises - the Cattle Pavilion at the Maleny Showgrounds - for both the Maleny Wood Expo (5th May) and the Maleny Show (2nd June). During this forced relocation, the Brigade has had limited response capability and has not been able to fulfil its duties when emergencies have arisen. Furthermore, in November 2017, the current State Government committed to building a joint facility for the Brigade and the Maleny Auxiliary QFES at the current QFES site.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to immediately commence construction of the new facility, as promised, to ensure the disruption caused to the Brigade in May and June of 2018 is the final time such disruption will occur.
