Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that the principles behind the recent referendum for four-year, fixed terms of parliament were supported by both major political parties in Queensland – some suggesting that the previous system was very strange in that it resembled a potential employee (a prospective government) dictating to their potential employer (the people of Queensland), the timing of the job interview. With the current high level of speculation about the timing of the next election, it appears we are in this exact situation once again.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Premier to end the current speculation and unambiguously notify the public of the date that she intends for the next election to be held.
