The petition of electors of the Division of Callide draws to the attention of the House the potentially unsafe condition of the unsealed sections of the Monto-Mt Perry and Gayndah-Mt Perry State controlled roads due to varying conditions and narrow formation.

These roads are important linkages from the Burnett Highway to the Bruce Highway and also between townships in the North Burnett Regional Council, providing a social and economic value and access to the mining industry and major tourism facilities. Nine years ago the region was amalgamated yet Mt Perry still has not got a sealed pavement to their neighbours, with approximately 10 km of unsealed road to Monto and approximately 26 km of unsealed road to Gayndah.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to initiate a program for upgrading these roads to current engineering standards including a full bitumen seal pavement and in the interim to allocate additional funding so that the unsealed sections of the roads can be graded and re-gravelled on a more frequent basis to provide a safer and more reliable environment for persons travelling in the region.
