Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the growing number of children in foster and residential care who will never be able to be reunified with their biological parents because they are unable to care for them.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to introduce:

a) laws that provide greater certainty and safety for abused children whilst requiring parents to address their abusive behaviours so they can resume caring for their child; and

(b) if parents are unable or unwilling to make the necessary life changes within a set timeframe of between 12 months and two years, laws should allow the Government make permanency orders for children that offer a stable, loving and safe home to grow up in; and

(c) consider similar laws that have been introduced in New South Wales and Victoria that offer permanency and stability for abused children.
