The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the intention to expand the Woolworths supermarket at the Coomera East Shopping Centre from 2,000 sqm to 3,000 sqm, to provide required additional shopping options for all the people living and working in and around the Coomera area.

Coomera has been identified, in the recently released Shaping South East Queensland, Draft South East Queensland Regional Plan, October 2016, as “the area that will accommodate the largest proportion of the sub-region's planned greenfield growth”.

The proposed expansion is therefore essential for the provision of services to the residents of Coomera. Furthermore, the Coomera area is already a well located and planned urban settlement and, as such, must be serviced by appropriate social and economic infrastructure.

This expansion will also provide the people of Coomera with increased opportunities for employment and more choice, variety and convenience, as they go about their daily lives.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to do all in its power to ensure that this expansion of Woolworths Supermarket proceeds in a timely manner.
