Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House that 2017 marks 25 years since Queenslanders last had the opportunity to vote on the issue of daylight saving. The 1992 referendum on this matter was narrowly lost by less than 150,000 votes. Since then, the State's population has grown by at least 1.5 million residents, meaning the 1992 vote is now entirely outdated and irrelevant.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to commit to a new referendum on daylight saving to give Queenslanders the opportunity to have their democratic say on this matter. Ideally, the referendum should be preceded by a trial of daylight saving across the State.
