The petition of residents of State of Queensland draws the attention of the House to the need for an immediate upgrade to the intersection of Bribie Island Road and Old Toorbul Point Road.  Currently users of this intersection face an unacceptable risk of being involved in a serious motor vehicle accident. Users wanting to travel towards Caboolture, must cross traffic travelling at 80 kilometres per hour in both directions - a white knuckle gamble to find any break in the flow of traffic. This intersection is dangerous and we fear lives will be lost. There are currently 450 students at St Michaels College and Early Learning Centre and 30,000 visitors to the Abbey Festival creating a major gridlock on the Bribie Island Road. The petitioners are particularly concerned that the lives of many young Queenslanders are placed at risk daily as they access education and care providers.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to make the necessary changes to this intersection before a fatality occurs. It is hoped that this petition alleviates the need for a young life to be tragically cut short in a horrific traffic accident before a clearly dangerous intersection receives a safety upgrade.
