The petition of residents of the State of Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the vital need for an Arts and Sports hall at Toowoomba State High School, Wilsonton Campus. Wilsonton Campus opened in 1998 and in 2015 the school will have nearly 800 students. After 17 years the school still has no hall or indoor learning, sporting or performance space which is appropriate for the size of the school. A hall would mean the school could house full-school assemblies, conduct P.E. lessons in inclement weather and conduct major exams such as NAPLAN in an appropriate environment. There are no indoor facilities elsewhere in the Wilsonton area that could be used by the school for these purposes.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to fund the construction of an Arts and Sports Hall at Toowoomba State High School, Wilsonton Campus. Plans and costings for the project have already been developed by Darling Downs South West Regional Facilities on request from Dr Jim Watterston and after extensive consultation with school staff, the P&C Association and community.  All that remains is budgetary consideration for a facility, vitally needed for this thriving school and of great benefit to the Wilsonton community as a whole.
