Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House a decision by the Minister for Housing and Public Works to enforce a four-week temporary-absence policy. This new temporary absence policy is not mirrored in the private rental market and will adversely affect public housing tenants who may have to look after sick relatives for an extended period; visit friends or relatives; or be absent for other legitimate reasons.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Minister for Housing and Public Works to reverse his decision to enforce a four-week only leave policy, which has had, and will have an adverse effect on many public housing tenants who are abiding by the rules. Further, your petitioners also call on the Minister to acknowledge that public housing tenants like those in the private rental market should be treated with respect and dignity if they are required to be away from their properties.
