TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the Department of Education, Training and Employment's agreement to acquire from Queensland Health lot 1 on Crown Plan SL841384 County of Stanley Parish of North Brisbane (169 Water Street, Spring Hill, corner of Water Street and Rogers Street, Spring Hill) (“lot 1”), comprising building and land formerly belonging to the Brisbane Central State School (“BCSS”), and the Minister for Education's imminent decision, or decision, regarding how much of that land will be used by the BCSS and how much should be made available for the use of a private educational enterprise.  Due to the closure of Fortitude Valley State School (“FVSS”), BCSS inheriting half the former FVSS catchment area, the increasing number of high density residential developments in the BCSS catchment area and the consequential increase in future student numbers, BCSS requires the entire and sole use of lot 1.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to call on the Minister for Education to allocate lot 1 in its entirety for the sole use and occupation by the BCSS in order to accommodate the total educational needs of current and future State primary school students in the BCSS catchment area, including student accommodation, active open play space, toilet facilities and teacher support space.
