Queensland Residents draws to the attention of the House that currently the age at which people can vote in state or local government elections is 18 and over. Lowering this age to 16 or 17 would mean a more inclusive democratic process whereby younger people would be given the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to their community by electing members of Parliament which best represent their interests. Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to support lowering the voting age to either 16 or 17.
