The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the proposal to close the Pathology Lab located at the Maryborough Hospital with the provision of pathology services to be provided from the Hervey Bay pathology lab. This proposal has caused great distress for staff at the hospital and members of the community.

Given the increasing population in the area, your petitioners therefore request the House to ensure that all necessary steps are taken to ensure that appropriate pathology services are provided in the Maryborough Hospital within the appropriate time frames so that the level of medical services provided at the hospital can be increased.
