The petition of citizens of Queensland draws to the attention of the attention of the House that the legislation concerning the fishing of feral carp in Queensland waterways is not aligned with the legislation in southern states. Under the State of Queensland's existing laws, the state cannot issue a permit/licence for a commercial fishing venture (as requested by me, John Dinu) to clear Queensland waterways of invading carp, a feral fish, which is highly destructive of native flora and fauna.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to rescind part of all legislation which controls carp fishing in Queensland waterways and allow non-invasive methods of fishing, for example, selective targeting by electronic stunning is harmless to the environment. It is requested that the state government representative assists in this action, in accordance with the environmental protection laws and aligns the legislation regarding the fishing of carp in Queensland waterways with the legislation in New South Wales and Victoria.
