TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that no nominations for Tablelands Regional Council Division 6 Councillor were received by the Electoral Commission for the Local Government elections held 28 April 2012.

In accordance with s.34 of the Local Government Electoral Act 2011, the Minister for Local Government may now appoint a councillor on recommendations of the newly elected council.

We the residents of Division 6, believe this is an infringement on our right to democratically elected representation.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to call for this Government to support resident's right to a democratically elected representative and alter s.34 of the Local Government Electoral Act 2011 to allow a by-election for Tablelands Regional Council Division 6 Councillor.
