The petition of residents of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the urgent need to extend the 90 km hour speed zone north on the Bruce Highway as far as Atkinson Road, Curra.  The residents of Curra living in the area to the west of the Bruce Highway have only two access roads onto the highway, both of them into an existing 100 km per hour speed zone. While there are turning lanes for traffic turning into David Drive and Purcell Road, vehicles needing to turn from these roads onto the Bruce Highway have to compete with on-coming traffic travelling at 100 kilometres per hour. This makes it dangerous for both vehicles turning onto the Highway and vehicles travelling on the highway past these intersections.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to ensure that the existing 90 kilometre per hour speed zone be extended to Atkinson Road, Curra to provide a safer access to and egress from the Bruce Highway for both local residents and those using the Bruce Highway. This will make the 90 kilometre per hour speed zone from Cooroy to Curra.
