TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House to the following:

Queensland Health has issued a directive to close the ten publicly funded beds at Canossa Private Hospital by April 2011.  As a consequence of this decision dying people on Brisbane's Southside and Westside will have limited options for specialised palliative care.  Many people may die in emergency departments either waiting for admission to an acute care bed and or without specialised care.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to request the Minister for Health to rescind the decision to close the 10 palliative care beds currently at Canossa Private Hospital and allow the funding of these beds to continue past 2011.  Thus ensuring no services are lost to those requiring this facility.
