Responded By: Hon Paul Lucas MP on 18/7/2011
TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland citizens draws to the attention of the House that infrastructure charges are required to fund infrastructure and maintain standards currently enjoyed by residents.  Imposing a 'cap' on infrastructure charges places an additional and unfair burden on council's ratepayers who will have to fund the shortfall in essential revenue through increased rates or, suffer a reduction in infrastructure.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to recognise the right of local governments to calculate and apply infrastructure charges that are carefully calculated, defendable and transparent; note our strong opposition to the setting of maximum standard infrastructure charges or the deferral of payment of charges to settlement (of lots); and refrain from mandatory capping of infrastructure charges.
