TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

The petition of Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the growing demand within the local community for a second access to Bribie Island.  A number of accidents on the single bridge have caused lengthy delays which impact on local residents, visitors and business. To this end, we, the people of Queensland, urge the Minister for Main Roads, Craig Wallace to undertake investigations into duplicating the existing bridge and/or any other suitable alternatives to provide improved access to Bribie Island.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to call on the Queensland government to:

  • urgently undertake investigations into the duplication of the Bribie Island Bridge and/or other options that may alleviate traffic delays
  • ensure thorough consultation with the community giving consideration to the impact of residents living in suburbs who may be affected by the outcome
  • consider fast tracking the design and planning of the final option which should include an appropriate pedestrian/cycle way.
