Responded By: Hon Anna Bligh MP on 29/09/2010

TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland

Queensland Citizens draws to the attention of the House the dismissal of Wendy Christie an employee of Xstrata. Mrs Christie had worked for Xstrata for 24 years prior to her dismissal. Mrs Christie's dismissal followed an email from Mrs Christie's work email address to the Member for Mt Isa, Mrs Betty Kiernan MP, asking for support to a charity event and an automatically generated email from an online campaign against the State government's privatisation agenda.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to require Mrs Kiernan MP to explain to the House whether she made any complaint to Xstrata about Mrs Christie and the details of any complaint or other communication to Xstrata about Mrs Christie and to investigate whether the Member has beached any duty of confidentiality to her constituent.
