TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of electors of the Division of Maryborough draws to the attention of the House the complete unsuitability for modern private and commercial traffic of the single lane, "S" bend, non railed, low level, often flooded and always dangerous road bridge, the only linked river crossing for more than 30 kilometres in either direction, over the Mary River at Tiaro. Your petitioners therefore request the House to initiate immediate action to replace the bridge with a high level, two lane railed bridge with pedestrian/bicycle pathway so that emergency services, schooling and access to medical services, businesses, agricultural produce and the general community amenity are not seriously impeded for days on end each time even a small flood occurs in the Mary River.
