The petition of Queensland residents draws to the attention of the House the consequence of the proposal to establish high density development in and adjacent to the Carseldine QUT campus and Carseldine railway station under the direction of the Urban Land Development Authority. The proposed high intensity developments up to 10 storeys high with the associated destruction of existing green belts and open space changes the existing outer urban low intensity character of the Carseldine area and will severely impact current community values. The inclusion of a high percentage of social housing, mirroring the failing Kelvin Grove experiment, is also an inappropriate development proposal. Furthermore, the failure to properly consider traffic impacts outside the UDA, in consultation with Brisbane City, will lead to detrimental effects on an even wider area around Carseldine. Your petitioners therefore request the House to immediately suspend any further approvals of the Fitzgibbon UDA plans, and subject the whole of the plan to a ‘clean state’ rigorous review and community consultation that takes proper account of the wishes of existing residents who have established the character and values of this area.
