TO: The Honourable the Speaker and Members of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland
The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the total opposition of the residents to the proposed dam on the Mary River at Traveston near Gympie. Such a dam would have a severely negative impact on the social fabric of the region, main roads, agriculture, particularly the dairy industry, endangered river species, water quality and supply downstream, and the fishing and tourism industries on the Fraser Coast. Your petitioners therefore request the House to abandon plans for the Traveston dam and consider alternative solutions.
