The petition of electors of the Division of Mudgeeraba draws to the attention of the House to an environmental problem affecting the waterways in Carrara. The Nerang River has sustained an increased level of acid sulphate as a result of soil runoff from a development site in the region, which causes fish to die and produces foul odours and unsightly polluted water in canals around residents’ homes. Your petitioners therefore request the House commission the Environmental Protection Agency and/or other authorities to investigate the cause of the pollutant and ask that the State take whatever action is necessary to mitigate the problem.
