The petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House, the matter of the short-listed corridors of the Bruce Highway (Cooroy to Curra) Strategic Planning Study, as published in the Main Roads Newsletter Issue 3, dated November, 2005. We, the undersigned, reject all five proposed routes for a new highway between Cooroy and Curra because of the massive social and economic impacts they will have on all sections of the greater community of the area. The proposed routes will cause major loss to existing social, economic and community infrastructures and have major impacts on the lifestyle and ambience of the residences of the greater majority of the community.

The routes as presented to the public are unacceptable on many grounds and your petitioners call on Minister for Transport and Main Roads Paul Lucas to commission a new study. This study should investigate areas outside the greater Gympie and its new rural residential sub- divisions to design a route that will provide a complete by-pass of these areas for well into the future. Further, that this study be undertaken as soon as possible and in the meantime the process now under way be halted.
