In Queensland, there are a significant number of domestic violence deaths each year - in 2003 there were 28 domestic violence related deaths. More Aboriginal women and children die of domestic homicide than there were deaths in custody.

This petition of the citizens of Queensland requests the Parliament establish a Domestic Violence Death Review Board. A Domestic Violence Death Review Board would provide more information on the nature, circumstances of the death as well as possible gaps in legislation or service response. With more information these deaths may be prevented. Multidisciplinary death review boards have been successful in other countries in making changes to government and community responses so as to prevent the deaths of women and children.
