The petition of residents and visitors to Cooktown, Far North Queensland, draws to the attention of the house the Justice Department’s order to have two large trees, situated on their property at the Court House, Charlotte Street, Cooktown felled/removed. These trees are icons to the street and important vistas to the streetscape of the town of Cooktown. We feel very strongly that they should not be removed.

Your petitioners therefore request the House to prevent the Justice Department from removing the said trees – one ancient Mango and one ancient Curtain Fig Tree and seek other means available to manage these trees.
