4441-26 New parking laws to reduce congestion on streets and roads
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland32 Barber Road

The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House that an increasing number of people seem to be unnecessarily cluttering the streets with vehicles.
Your petitioners acknowledge that due to housing shortages and high numbers of adult drivers, some people are unable to use their garages, carports, driveways and other spaces on their property to park vehicles.
However there are also increasing numbers of households with plenty of private parking space who do not use it, and who habitually clutter the roadway.
There are also widespread problems with illegal parking.
Some people are also parking vehicles on the street or outside other people's homes due to risks posed by environmentally protected trees.
When bus drivers are unable to drop off passengers due to illegally parked vehicles, they sometimes have little choice but to carry them on to the next bus stop. When people need to visit medical centres using buses due to age, injury or disability, illegally parked vehicles may cause them to have to walk hundreds of metres.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to
- strengthen parking laws to require residents to park vehicles on their own properties before resorting to use of roadway;
- require residents to maximise use of lawn lockers, non-garage outbuildings, rumpus rooms and other areas to store their belongings, tools, lawn mowing and gym equipment, and;
- allow removal or lopping of protected trees that could potentially damage vehicles parked on the roadway or private property.
