The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House Queensland, Mudgeeraba, a once-sleepy town, has experienced significant population growth over the past decade. According to the latest census data online, the population of Mudgeeraba has increased from approximately 7,500 in 2011 to over 10,000 in 2021 with Bonogin population - 20,000 (surrounding suburbs that use this centre). This 33% growth in just ten years has directly impacted local amenities, particularly the Mudgeeraba Shopping Market on Railway Street. The current parking facilities are inadequate, leading to congestion and frustration among locals.

There are many reasons to improve parking by adding a second level in the car park at Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre.

  • Parking is actively full, especially during peak hours, creating significant challenges for shoppers and locals.
  • The high volume of vehicles amplifies traffic problems, complicating access for shoppers and local transporters.
  • Many residents live in hilly areas, making it impractical for them to walk to the market for groceries.
  • The local population has surged over the past decade, increasing the demand for parking. Reducing congestion would significantly improve safety for pedestrians and e/cyclists in the area.
  • Many residents, especially those with mobility issues or living in hilly regions, rely on their vehicles for grocery shopping.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to ensure the development of a second level car park at Mudgeeraba Market Shopping Centre.
