4427-26 Better protection of companion pet animals in Queensland
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland42 Bennetts Road
EVERTON HILLS QLD 4053
The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the serious concerns raised recently in the media regarding the protection and care of our companion pet animals.
Your petitioners recognise that changes have recently been made to better liaise with the RSPCA, DPI and Police Officers. However, since COVID there has been an increase in pet ownership, breeding practices and husbandry. Not all animals manage to enjoy the intended companionship but instead suffer mistreatment and abuse at the hands of their handlers.
Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to urgently review and do all within its power to ensure the RSPCA responds in a timely and effective way to identified concerns across the state, to better liaise with the DPI and Police Officers, and ensure that perpetrators are strongly held to account. Such action needs to be taken to send a strong message to the community that the Queensland Government will act to protect our pet companion animals so important to families in our community.
