The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House recent reports in The Guardian, identifying the Queensland Government has backtracked on the planned phasing out of licenced culling of flying foxes by aggrieved farmers.

The people of Queensland that celebrated the previous plan to phase out culling of flying foxes by 2026 are disappointed by this report.

Some academics and experts agree that netting is a far more effective process to culling.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to reinstate the planned phasing out of flying fox culling by July 2026 and provide education to affected producers on the effective implementation of netting as a preventative measure.
