442-05 Rezone area as a special managed area for recreation and tourism
Eligibility - Residents of the State of Queensland8 Camellia Drive
BONGAREE
The following petitioners, in the Moreton Bay region, would like to request the rezoning of the area (Deception Bay, from Castlereagh Point at Scarborough to the southern tip of Bribie Island and including approximately 200 metres out from the low water mark in the Bay along the eastern shoreline of Bribie Island to 8th Avenue, Woorim) to a S.M.A.R.T. (Special Managed Area for Recreation and Tourism) zone. Recreational fishers are disadvantaged by the quantity of the commercial harvest and are finding the large amounts of netting to be a navigational hazard. These areas are a valuable spawning and breeding ground for fish species in the Moreton Bay area which contains some internationally recognised ecosystems. If these areas are declared a recreational fish ground, we believe the area will prove to be a more sustainable nursery for the many valuable fish species in Moreton Bay.
Your petitioners therefore request the House to take action to rezone the area (from the 4 wheel drive track on Bribie Island's ocean beach opposite 8th Avenue, Woorim, approximately 200 metres out from the low- tide mark to Castlereagh Point, Scarborough) as a S.M.A.R.T (Special Managed Area for Recreation and Tourism) zone.
