The Petition of residents of the State of Queensland draws to the attention of the House the rise of violent crime across Queensland and other states across Australia has left people scared and realising that they are unable to defend themselves. In the event of an assault or break-in all a citizen can do is try to fight back with the hopes they won't be prosecuted themselves or hope that police will arrive before they killed. There are no laws that explicitly give a citizen the right or ability to self-defence.

Your petitioners, therefore, request the House to do all within its power to allow citizens to defend themselves from violent attack without the fear of prosecution; and allow self-defence of the home for a genuine reason to own a firearm.
